Tip
Just make it exist first, you can make it good later.
Who am I?
The short and boring answer: nobody! 😜
I’m a self-taught independent developer since 2019. I work with Unity and Blender. But it turns out I suffer from scope creep syndrome: I love building systems that are way too ambitious for the little solo developer that I am.
So I’m doing my best to create a Tower Defense inspired by Orcs Must Die and Dungeon Defenders, with a touch of horde mode in the vein of They Are Billions and Age of Darkness: Final Stand or Cataclismo.
All of it with a shareable map editor and a self-hosted multiplayer mode, like we used to have back in the days of Age of Empires II and Warcraft 3 (yeah I’m a bit old, 80s kid…).
Quite a modest project, as you can tell ! And while I’m undeniably making slow progress, I’m also learning a ton along the way.
So I figured it’s quite silly to keep all these experiences to myself when they might interest others too!
What will you find here ?
I’ll be rambling about all sorts of topics:
- action RPG and Tower Defense development
- simulations of crowds, leaves 🍂, grass 🌿 and other unlikely things
- map editor and diegetic interfaces
- multiplayer networking with self-hosting
- ECS (Entity - Component - System) implementation
- optimization and performance (those aren’t dirty words)
- AI-assisted game dev (neither is that one)
On this devlog, you’ll find 3 main types of content:
- 📖 implementation tutorials
- 💡 vulgarization about game dev (and sometimes about more general tech topics)
- ✏️ opinion pieces (to be or not to be a game dev? that is the question! 🤔)
In short, if you’re interested in game dev, chances are I’ll cover a topic that catches your eye sooner or later. And if so, welcome aboard!
